Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how College of English Language ("CEL", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, what they do, how long they last, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
In short: only the cookies that are essential to run the site are used automatically. Analytics, functional and marketing cookies stay off until you allow them through the consent banner, and you can manage or delete cookies at any time through your browser.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your choices, and to provide information to the site owner. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixels, perform comparable functions. Cookies may be "first-party" (set by us) or "third-party" (set by another organisation whose service we use), and they may last only for your browsing session ("session cookies") or for a set period ("persistent cookies").
2. How We Use Cookies and Your Consent
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run our website without asking for consent. For all other cookies — functional, analytics and marketing — we ask for your consent before they are set. When you first visit our site, a cookie banner lets you Accept all, Reject all, or Manage preferences by category.
Non-essential cookies stay switched off until you opt in. We remember your choices for 6 months, after which the consent banner appears again so you can review them; it also reappears if you clear your browser cookies or visit from a new browser or device. You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings (see Section 4). We keep a record of your consent so we can demonstrate compliance.
We load and manage our analytics and marketing tags through Google Tag Manager, and for Google's own tags we apply Google Consent Mode. With Consent Mode, Google Analytics reads your choice directly: until you allow analytics, no Google Analytics cookies are set; if you decline, Google Analytics receives only limited, aggregated signals that contain no cookies and nothing that identifies you, helping us understand overall trends without tracking you individually. All other non-essential cookies — functional and marketing — likewise stay off until you opt in through the banner. Google Tag Manager itself does not set any cookies.
3. Categories of Cookies We Use
Strictly Necessary (always active)
These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They do not require your consent.
- cel_cookie_consent — Remembers your cookie choices. Duration: 6 months.
- Webflow — Secure website hosting and delivery. Duration: session.
- Weglot — Remembers the language you are viewing. Duration: 1 year.
- Fidelo — Runs the course-booking form (on booking pages only). Duration: session.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — Protects our forms from spam and bots; may set a short-lived security cookie. Duration: session / up to 30 minutes.
Functional (optional — consent required)
These cookies let us tailor content to you. If you do not allow them, you will simply see our default offers.
- Geotargetly — Detects your approximate country (via IP) to show relevant regional offers. Duration: session / up to 1 year.
Analytics (optional — consent required)
These cookies help us understand how visitors find and use our site — for example which pages they view and how they navigate — so we can improve it. Data is reported in aggregate. We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager and governed by Google Consent Mode, so these cookies are set only after you allow analytics.
- _ga — Google Analytics: distinguishes unique visitors. Duration: 2 years.
- _ga_VZSPVZ9NDR — Google Analytics 4: maintains session state. Duration: 2 years.
Marketing (optional — consent required)
These cookies measure the performance of our partner and referral programmes and support embedded media.
- PAPVisitorId — PostAffiliatePro: attributes a referral to the correct partner. Duration: up to 1 year.
- vuid — Vimeo: video-playback analytics, set only if you play an embedded video. Duration: 2 years.
4. Managing Your Cookies
You can control cookies in several ways:
- Through the consent banner: you choose which categories to allow when you first visit. The banner reappears when your saved choices expire (every 6 months), or sooner if you clear your browser cookies or use a new browser or device, so you can change your choices.
- In your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
When you withdraw consent for a category, we stop using those cookies and remove the first-party cookies we can. Some third-party cookies are controlled by the provider, so you may also need to use the provider's own tools to opt out.
5. Third-Party Providers
Some cookies are set by third parties whose services we use. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy and cookie policies:
- Google Analytics — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Tag Manager — Google's tag-management service that loads the analytics tags above; it does not set cookies of its own. policies.google.com/privacy
- Vimeo — vimeo.com/privacy
- Webflow — webflow.com/legal/privacy
- Weglot — weglot.com/privacy
- PostAffiliatePro — postaffiliatepro.com/privacy-policy
- Geotargetly — geotargetly.com/privacy-policy
- Cloudflare — cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- HubSpot — powers the "Schedule a Call" meetings embed; it processes the booking details you enter and may set its own cookies when you book a call. legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy
We also use ALTCHA for spam and bot protection on our forms. ALTCHA is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies, local storage, tracking or fingerprinting; see altcha.org/privacy-policy.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our website and the technologies we use evolve. When we make material changes, we will publish the updated version here and update the "Last updated" date below.
