For programs of up to six months, many students can enter Canada with an eTA or visitor status depending on nationality. If you plan to study longer than six months, you may require a study permit. Our admissions team provides guidance to help you understand requirements before arrival.
Tuition typically ranges between C$330 and C$420 per week, depending on program duration. For a 12-week stay including accommodation, the total investment usually ranges between C$8,500 and C$14,000, depending on housing type and season.
On average, students need approx. 10 weeks to complete one CEFR level. Shorter stays improve fluency and confidence but typically won’t result in a full level progression. That said, even 4 weeks produces real, noticeable gains — especially in speaking and listening.

Yes. CEL is certified by SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), which allows us to issue Form I-20 for students applying for an F-1 Student Visa.
This means international students can legally study full-time in the United States at CEL.
Our English classes are limited to a maximum of 12 students, with an average of 7. Smaller classes allow teachers to give individual correction, monitor progress closely and ensure every student participates actively — which supports faster confidence and measurable improvement.
Yes. The weekly tuition rate decreases as the duration increases. From 13 weeks onward — and again from 20 weeks — the weekly cost becomes significantly lower. Long-term programs offer a more efficient cost per week.
Yes. Twelve weeks typically allows students to complete one CEFR level and achieve measurable improvement — especially with consistent attendance and active participation in and outside class. It's the most popular length for a reason.
Overall living costs are comparable. Toronto accommodation may be slightly higher on average, but total expenses depend primarily on duration and housing choice.
Language students in Canada generally need one of the following visas, depending on the length and nature of their studies:
You’re never on your own. Our Homestay Team is available to assist with communication challenges, cultural adjustments, or any concerns related to food, schedules, or expectations. This ensures that students booking through CEL enjoy the same academic quality and official recognition.

Class sizes depend on the school. At CEL Vancouver, classes average 7 students (maximum 12), allowing for personalized attention.
Three things set us apart. First, class size — we cap classes at 12 students with an average of 7, while most language schools in Vancouver run 15–17 per class, which limits speaking time and individual feedback. Second, location — our boutique campus near Coal Harbour puts you within walking distance of the waterfront, Stanley Park and downtown, rather than in a large institutional setting. Third, experience — CEL is part of a language education group with over 45 years of welcoming international students, so our teaching methods, student support and accreditations reflect long-standing expertise rather than a recent setup.
Class sizes are intentionally small to ensure personal attention and faster progress. On average:
CEL Vancouver is fully accredited by Languages Canada, approved by PTIRU (Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit), and certified under EQA (Education Quality Assurance).
Together, these designations confirm CEL Vancouver’s compliance with all provincial and federal quality standards in British Columbia.
Study duration depends on your goals, starting level and desired outcome. Some students choose 4–12 weeks for focused improvement, while others stay 24 weeks or longer to reach advanced fluency or prepare for exams. Explore recommended study durations in Vancouver to decide what fits best.
Vancouver's cost structure is comparable to other major Canadian cities such as Toronto or Montreal. Differences depend more on lifestyle and accommodation choice than on tuition itself.

It integrates English with applied professional topics — project management, AI fundamentals, negotiation, presentation skills, and interview preparation. It's popular with students who want English they can immediately use in a professional context.

Yes. Tuition decreases at 13 weeks and again at 20 weeks, making longer programs more cost-efficient per week. If you're planning 12 weeks, it's worth considering whether one extra week both saves money and gives you more time to consolidate your level progress.

Stories and advice from our students, written to give you a real feel for studying with CEL.
Students who choose to learn english in the USA with CEL join a network that hosts over 1,000 international learners annually. Our Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified campuses welcome students aged 16 and older to study in San Diego, California, and Los Angeles, California. Every campus maintains an intimate learning environment with an average of just seven students per class. This structure ensures you receive dedicated attention from certified instructors whether you stay for a four-week intensive or a full semester. You can start your classes any Monday of the year. Our curriculum spans nine specific course types across every Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level from A1 to C2. Living and studying in Southern California combines rigorous academic preparation with cultural immersion. Students easily transition from morning grammar lessons to afternoon conversations with native speakers. The process requires focus. Small groups accelerate your fluency.
Beyond the classroom setting, students who learn english at CEL enjoy 19 distinct housing accommodations across our American locations. Students can choose to live with American host families for a complete language immersion experience or opt for shared student apartments near the beach. We operate three specialized California facilities: San Diego Downtown, San Diego Pacific Beach, and Santa Monica in the greater Los Angeles area. Each location offers a distinct atmosphere. Downtown positions you near major transit and business hubs, Pacific Beach delivers the classic surf culture lifestyle, and Santa Monica places you blocks away from the Pacific Ocean and thriving creative industries.
Learning English in the USA with CEL means studying at one of three California campuses run by a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified school that has welcomed international students aged 16 and older for decades. CEL operates 4 locations across our school network, three of them in California: San Diego Downtown, San Diego Pacific Beach, and Santa Monica in greater Los Angeles. The program covers 9 courses across every Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level from A1 to C2, hosts more than 1,000 students per year from over 23 nationalities, and offers 19 housing options across the two USA cities. Small class sizes average 7 students per group, new courses start every Monday, and certified instructors prepare students for university entry, professional careers, and the cultural immersion of living in California.
The two USA cities feel very different day-to-day. San Diego sits on the Pacific coast with year-round mild weather averaging 23°C, beach culture from Pacific Beach to La Jolla, and easy weekend access across the border to Tijuana, Mexico. Santa Monica, just west of Los Angeles, puts students within walking distance of the entertainment, technology, and creative industries that define the region, with the Pacific Ocean three blocks from class. Both campuses offer comprehensive student housing options including homestays with American families, shared apartments with other international students, and student residences within a 30-minute commute. Most students choose housing during enrollment so language learning and daily life blend together rather than feeling like school and then home.
Most international students enter the USA on an F-1 student visa, which requires enrollment in an SEVP-certified program (CEL is certified) and proof of financial support for tuition and living costs. Students from Visa Waiver Program countries (most of Europe, plus Japan, Korea, Australia, and several others) studying for under 90 days can enter on an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), which is sufficient for short courses and summer programs but not for full-length stays. For any course longer than 90 days, the F-1 visa is required. CEL admissions issues the I-20 form (the document a school must provide for F-1 applications), helps with US embassy interview preparation, and times the application to your course start date. The full F-1 process from CEL invitation to USA arrival typically takes 2 to 6 months depending on country and embassy availability.
The right starting point depends on your goal and current English level. Students building everyday fluency typically start with General English at any CEFR level from A1 through C1, with new groups every Monday at both campuses. Students preparing for US universities add specialty tracks like Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) preparation for the test most US universities require, Academic Skills for university writing and discussion, or the Pathway Program which extends beyond English instruction to cover semester abroad, certificate programs with Optional Practical Training (OPT) eligibility, undergraduate transfer agreements, and graduate program preparation. Students looking for cultural immersion can add electives such as English Plus Experience (which pairs English study with a placement at a California-based company) or English Plus Surfing in San Diego.
