What Is It Really Like to Learn English in Vancouver?
Choosing where to learn English abroad is a big decision. Beatriz from Brazil studied at CEL Vancouver for six months and later returned with her brother. Here is her experience in her own words.
My name is Beatriz Horita, I am from Brazil, and I have completed four exchange programs: two in the United States and two here in Vancouver.
In my first experience in Vancouver, I stayed for six months. At that time, I didn’t have much information about Canada and was unsure whether to choose Toronto or Vancouver. I ended up choosing Vancouver because I prefer calmer cities — and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
During those six months, I made friends from many parts of the world, including Japan, France, Italy, Korea, and also Brazil. It was a very fun and special experience to be in such an amazing place, surrounded by wonderful people. Studying at a language school in Vancouver allowed me not only to improve my English, but also to connect with different cultures every day.
Vancouver is a city I fell in love with at first sight. The breathtaking landscapes, the kind people, and how well-organized everything feels make it a truly special place. To summarize how I feel: it is a city that really knows how to live life in the best way. Without a doubt, I would live here again.

In 2026, I had the opportunity to return — this time with my brother. We chose to come because we were on a break month in Brazil, and we thought it would be very special to be together in a place we love so much.
I was especially happy to meet again teachers who had taught me in 2019 at CEL Vancouver. The school was fundamental in helping me overcome my fear of trying, making mistakes, and learning English. The light-hearted teaching style, the care, and the patience of the teachers contributed greatly to my personal and academic development.
Once again, I would like to thank and congratulate CEL Vancouver for its commitment to us students. I wish the school all the success in the world. I will always come back to visit whenever possible, because beyond teachers and classmates, we truly became a family.
