Conveniently located a few miles from Los Angeles, next to Venice and a short drive to popular attractions like Disneyland and Hollywood, Santa Monica is a beach city with all of the culture, events and comforts of an active metropolis.

It is thought of as the birthplace of the original “beach culture”, a seaside location where you can peacefully enjoy many of the activities Santa Monica can provide, and all of that against the incredible backdrop that is the Pacific Ocean. Some just like to come to this pearl of a beach city, enjoy the serenity that the ocean brings, and watch as the zephyr plays with the leaves of palm trees.

Don’t think it’s all rest and relaxation though, as Santa Monica offers plenty for those who like to remain physically active and actively entertained. The strand is perfect for skating or biking, and if you prefer to take your time on foot, you can always climb the legendary Santa Monica Stairs. Surfing is also a thing in Santa Monica, with pleasant private instructors that will tell you all about the best spots and biggest waves.

However, all of this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all there is to see, do, and observe in Santa Monica. Although it is world-famous for its beach, there is more. A lot more. And it’s waiting for you to discover it.

During the day discover mouthwatering cuisines at Ocean Avenue and pick up fresh blooms from the farmer’s market. If you like to peruse the shops during your daytime strolls, take a walk to Santa Monica Place. Head over to Venice Beach to enjoy some of the city’s best entertainment, as crowds gather to be dazzled by performers, or go on an outdoor adventure by hiking to the Hollywood sign. Or, if you’re an utter history buff, go to the Museum of Flying and see some of the most iconic planes ever.

As the evening approaches, Santa Monica lights up with its thriving nightlife. From upscale restaurants, bars and live music venues to rooftop views and beachside pubs, there is something for everyone’s taste. And of course, no visit is complete without a stop at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier, featuring an amusement park, aquarium, restaurants and the iconic Ferris wheel overlooking the magnificent Pacific Ocean.

Being surrounded by greater cities like Los Angeles and Hollywood, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: the beach town atmosphere and laid-back lifestyle combined with big city sophistication. Santa Monica’s endless beaches, kaleidoscope of artists and carefree environment make it a favorite location for many international students.
